As part of H2020 program, Clean Sky 2 aims at pushing forward the whole European aeronautical sector to a worldwide prominent place as well as addressing ambitious targets in reduction of pollution and fuel consumption.
The InVIGO project lies in this framework and is dedicated to get a deeper insight on vortex ingestion into the fan during ground operations. The objective is to build a method providing aerodynamic characterization of the ground vortex in engine crosswind condition, compatible with a reduced, degraded instrumentation.
To achieve this goal InVIGO associates Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and a wind tunnel experimental campaign to build a comprehensive database on ground vortices. This database will be used to develop and validate a robust and innovative method that uses deep learning and artificial neural networks to estimate the ground vortex properties in the fan inlet.
